In 2015, there were 140,197 property crimes reported by county and municipal
agencies. This is a 3 percent decrease from 2014. Property crime makes up 86
percent of the total Index offenses.
The property crime rate was 2,885.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. On average there
were 384 property crimes reported per day.
A total of 31,457 property crimes were cleared in 2015 for a 22 percent
clearance rate.
In 2015, 20,881 people were arrested for property crimes; 92 percent were
adults, 65 percent were white, and 61 percent were males.
Violent Crime Summary 2015
There were 22,279 Violent Crimes reported by county and municipal agencies in
2015, a 13 percent increase over 2014. Violent crime makes up 14 percent of
the total Index offenses.
The violent crime rate was 458.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.
On average, there were 61 violent crimes reported per day.
There were 9,114 violent crimes cleared in 2015 for a 41 percent clearance rate.
In 2015, 6,204 people were arrested for Violent Crimes; 93 percent were adults,
46 percent were white, and, 81 percent were male.
Prior to 2013, Rape included only female victims. In 2013, the definition of rape
was expanded by the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program to include male
victims and other types of sexual assault offenses. Because of this change, the
number of reported rapes increased in 2015 compared with 2012.
There were 34,159 burglaries reported by county and municipal agencies in
2015, a 9 percent decrease from 2014.
There were 703.0 burglaries per 100,000 inhabitants. On average, there were
93.6 burglaries reported per day.
5,045 burglaries were cleared for a 15 percent clearance rate.
3,296 persons were arrested for burglary: 12 percent juveniles, 86 percent
males, and 57 percent white.
67 percent of the burglaries were forcible entry, 32 percent were unlawful
entries, and 1 percent were attempted forcible entry. In 66 percent of
burglaries, the point of entry was a door, in 24 percent a window, and in 10
percent, the point of entry was other.
There were 26,644 residential burglaries, with 58 percent being at night, and
42 percent during the day. There were 7,515 non-residential burglaries, with
51 percent being at night, and 49 percent during the day.
